Tue, 2009-10-20 15:47 | by Shifu NugentHello Everyone:
I am new to this site, my name is Shifu Steve Nugent. I am a student from the Rancho Cordova School, so I guess that makes me a oldtimer. I started Shou Shu after I saw a commerical on channel 40 about Moores Karate, I think it was November 1981. I called and setup an appointment for the next day. The first guy I saw was tall guy about 25 he had a black belt with two small circular patches at the end of his belt, he said he name was Shifu Young. I watch him for a few minutes as he was kicking the heavy bag. Each time he kick the bag it flew back 5 or 6 feet, to say I was impressed was an understatement. A few minutes later a very nice lady came out an introduce herself as Marilyn. She shown me where I could change and get ready for my first lesson. As I went to the locker room I saw an Old guy in coveralls working on the hot tub, he was reaching for a pipe wrench that was just out of reach so I bend down and hand it to him, he smiled and said thanks, I went in changed into gi pants and got on the mat waiting for my first lesson. Five minutes later a man came out the office in this cool looking black gi, ( I had never seen a black gi before) with a black belt with a gold stripe and a bunch of circular patches at the end of his belt. He smiled and introduce himself as Da Shifu. He looked very familar but I just could not place where I had seen him before. Da Shifu taught me Raising Knee, and a wheel kick that first lesson. After the lesson was over he stuck out his hand an shook mine hand and said thank you again for handing me the pipe wrench. It was just then that I realize that I just got my first lesson from the hot tub repairman. That was almost 28 years ago and I remember it like it was yesterday. Later on after I had tested for by Black belt Da Shifu said to me something like this " I remember the day when you walk into the school I bet at that time you never thought you would learn so much from the maintenance man".

Wed, 2007-11-07 15:35 | by ShifuHudson83Hello all I am Shifu Michael Hudson and I am a teacher of the Internal GungFu systems of HsingYiQuan and its sibling art of PaKuaZhang I am very interested in the beast arts of Shou Shu. HsingYi has 12 animal styles (which are extremely violent and vicious and for advanced boxers) after the 5 fists(elements) are learnt the name means "mind formed fist" and as the name implys relys heavely on the link beatween mind and body. PaKua has 8 animal styles but are also advanced and only taught after the 8 basic palms are learnt and perfected. PaKuaZhang means "8 Trigram Palms". anyway i'll stop for now if anyone has questions about my arts feel free to ask I share my arts freely.
I'm a new guy.....
Wed, 2007-10-31 21:53 | by jackstrappetteHi everybody! My name is Jack Strappette, and I'm new to the sight. I'm from Petoskey MI. At least thats where I've been for a number of years. I'm looking forward to getting the chance to talk to people about Shou Shu. The man that was teaching me until a few years ago is the only one I ever met that knew anything about Shou Shu. Now I've stumbeled accross a sight with a whole bunch of people who study Shou Shu! Its excitting to me cause I would like to learn alot more, and from just taking a glance at the sight it appears that theres alot more to learn than I may have had any idea. I look forward to becoming more involved with the sight and those who use it. I'd like to say thanks to Shun Shifu Weaver for giving me the chance to get to meet people practicing an art that I feel is one of the best ( if not the best ) art there is.
Thanks! -Jack

Welcome
Wed, 2007-03-21 08:22 | by Shun Shifu WeaverI'd like to formally welcome Shifu Hashimoto and Mr. Woodard to our Quan. It's really nice to see some of the "old timers" (sorry about the phrase guys) come back to Northern Shou Shu. We were all a very huge extended family at one time and it would be great to see that again.
Shifu Hashimoto and Mr. Woodard both drive from Sacramento to study here in Valley Springs. That and other things shows a real commitment to the art.
Introductions
Tue, 2007-01-23 13:36 | by Shun Shifu WeaverSince there are some Shifu's on here that most people probably don't know I thought I'd make some introductions.
1. Shifu Hashimoto
Shifu Hashimoto has been around since the dark ages. He trained in the good ole days in Rancho Cordova under Wayne Smith. That school had the reputation of being the toughest bunch of guys around. Problem was there wasn't many of them. It was the kind of school that only the toughest survived.
