Warm up – Snap Kicks

5.    Snap Kicks from neutral
6.    Snap kicks to side (horse to cat to snap kick) Both sides
7.    Snap Kicks from fighting stance
8.    Snap kick mat drill. (fighting stance, snap kick, return to neutral, drive to fighting stance)

Part One –  Hard Upward Block from Square Horse

1.    Start by teaching Square horse
2.    Teach upward block from square horse
3.    Have students do in air about 40-50 times reinforcing details. Present, block repeat present block
4.    Show students how proper alignment will make it strong and deflect weapon. Use an empty plastic bottle to demonstrate. If block is not high enough, bottle hits them on head.
5.    Once they are getting it in air stand in front of each student, point to your chest to get them to look at chest. Say “1” and cock punch, student presents weapon. Once student can present weapon and keep eyes on chest, move to next student.
6.    Come back to first student, say “1” and if they can do one properly move to “2” Throw   overhand punch. Do slowly until student is comfortable then move down the line. Come back to beginning and throw a little faster (still by numbers but faster and harder). Use plastic bottle so they know if they are doing it right.
7.    Build speed of class by running up and down lines throwing overhand punches by the numbers, letting the bottle fly over their heads. Eventually remove numbers and just say “move”. Run up and down lines and throw punches, try to catch them not expecting it.
8.    If class is ok on time pair up students. You must teach dummies how to punch if you do this. Let dummies have plastic bottles but make sure they are careful where they are pointed, bottles will be flying all over.

Part Two- Hard upward block stepping in

1.    Students at neutral.
2.    Same as above lesson from neutral. Pay close attention to timing of block to step. Break it down “1 present, 2 block” Keep it broken down until students can block without swinging block. Then do same as above, throwing overhand punches by numbers and eventually speeding them up. Pay attention to training eyes, don’t let them look at punch.
3.    Pair students up and give them bottles.

Part Three- Rolling reverse punch

1.    Teach rolling reverse from square horse
2.    Work bags
3.    Use weights to teach alignment if desired.
4.    Teach rolling reverse punch from wu chi
5.    Work bags
6.    Teach upward hard block to rolling reverse punch
7.    Pair up
8.    Upward block to rolling reverse punch on opponents. Make sure to emphasize invading opponents space and taking centerline.

Part Four- Cross step heel palm

1.    From wu chi (right leg back) rear leg cross steps to 9 0’clock.
2.    Pivot to horse and heel palm with front hand.
3.    Work bags and do both sides.

Part Five- Upward defense

1.    Put it all together. Upward block, rolling reverse, cross step, heel palm.
2.    Work on opponents
3.    Do both sides

Part Six – Upward Defense with Opponent at Side

1.    Do same technique with opponent at side. Make sure to break it down the same way as before.
2.    If it’s a large enough group make three lines. Outside lines throw overhand while inside lines block from right to left on instructors command. If group is not large enough just group in three’s and have opponents alternate coming from left and right

Part Seven -  Extra credit
Do same technique with opponent behind
